RELEASE: ITHACA, NY– BRSN had named senior football quarterback Dalton Banks as this week’s Athlete of the Week. On Saturday after trailing 10-0 before halftime, Banks lead the explosive offensive to a 34-16 win at Brown Stadium, their first at Brown in 16 years. The senior completed 19-of-26 passes for 265 yards and three touchdowns. Banks now has 30 career passing touchdowns, 4th all-time at Cornell. The Big Red visit Princeton on Saturday, Oct. 27.
BRSN: Dalton, thank you for taking the time to speak with me. What was your mindset going into this past weekend?
Dalton Banks: Going into the Brown game, we knew we needed to come out of there with a win. We were 1-1 in the Ivy League, and to compete for an Ivy League Championship, we have to win the rest of our Ivy games. I knew we were the better team, but we hadn’t beaten Brown in Providence since 2002. I knew as long as we executed our gameplan, we would beat them. It was a great team win where everyone in the organization played well.
BRSN: How did you first get started with football, and what kept you in the sport?
Dalton Banks: I started with flag football back in 1st grade and have always loved it since. Football is the sport to play when you grow up in Texas. My teammates always keep me going; those are the guys I play for every game. Many of my friends in life were at some point a teammate of mine at some level.
BRSN: Why did you choose Cornell?
Dalton Banks: I chose Cornell because Coach Archer had a plan to turn this program around and I wanted to be a part of that change here at Cornell. I also liked the opportunity to play a high level of football while getting a great education at the same time.
BRSN: What is your favorite football memory?
Dalton Banks: Throwing a touchdown pass to Collin Shaw in the final minute of our enormous comeback game at Colgate two years ago.
BRSN: What’s your favorite Cornell game that you have played in?
Dalton Banks: My favorite Cornell game was beating Princeton last year. It was a huge road win for the team and kept our season alive.
BRSN: How do you like to prepare for games?
Dalton Banks: I like to get a lot of rest, take good care of my body, and mentally lock in by visualizing the game plan and focusing on every detail of every potential play call.
BRSN: What’s your pregame meal?
Dalton Banks: Pregame meal is always a large breakfast that consists of eggs, pancakes, cereal, bacon, and two bananas (they keep me from cramping in the game)
BRSN: Besides football, what do enjoy to do?
Dalton Banks: Outside of football, I love to golf, fish, hunt, and watch more football.
