Big Red Bites – 11/16/15

Men’s hockey: The Red played a home-and-home series against Colgate, and won both games. The first game featured prolific offense as they won 5-1, and the second game showcased the abilities of freshman Anthony Angello, who scored the game-winning goal in overtime. They are now fourth in the ECAC with six points, and they have their best start to a season since 2009-2010.

Women’s hockey: Goals from Cassandra Poudrier, Hannah Bunton, and Brianna Veerman in the first period catapulted the Red to a 5-2 victory against Syracuse. They will play Colgate tomorrow evening.

Men’s soccer: A 16th minute goal from Columbia spoiled Cornell’s final game of the season, and senior Ben Feldman’s last game of his career. Almost everyone on the team remains, and they will spend the next months gearing up for their 2016 campaign.

Football: Coach David Archer earned his first victory of the season, and the Red posted their first shutout in 22 years, as a single Zach Mays field goal in the first period was the difference in their bout with Columbia.

Sailing: The co-ed sailing team rounded out their fall season with an 18th place finish at the Atlantic Coast Coed Championship.

Women’s basketball: With a 26-15 fourth quarter, the Big Red come back against Bryant to win their second game of the year, 70-62.

Men’s basketball: After hanging in there for over one half, the Big Red eventually succumbed to Georgia Tech, who won the first game of the year 116-81.

Fencing: Victoria Wines was a perfect 21-0, and overall the team won 59 of 72 at the Vassar Invitational.
